Asier Polo, Artist-in-Residence at the Fundación Baluarte

The cellist Asier Polo has been appointed by the Baluarte Foundation, a Navarran public institution in charge of the programming of the ‘Baluarte’ Palacio de Congresos and Auditorium of Navarra, as its Artist-in-Residence for the 2018/2019 season.

Asier Polo will be the protagonist of five programs, which will be developed in seven concerts throughout the current season in various formats: recitals, chamber music concerts and performances with the Navarra Symphony Orchestra.

The first two concerts were held on November 7 and 14 and in them Asier Polo played Bach’s Solo Cello Suites, receiving excellent reviews, which called them «two unforgettable days».

The following programs in which Polo will participate include his performance of the Elgar’s Cello Concerto, with the Orchestra of Navarra, conducted by Maestro Christoph König, which will be followed, in March, by a chamber music concert with the accordionist Iñaki Alberdi and the Strings Group of the Navarra Symphony Orchestra, performing works by Bach, Gubaidulina, Piazzola, Mozart and the world premiere of the work of Jesús Torres Transfiguración, Concert for cello, accordion and string orchestra. The residency programs will conclude in May with another world premiere: the Concert for cello and orchestra by Fernando Velázquez, work commissioned by the OSN.

Asier Polo’s agenda includes other important appointments this season, such as his concerts with the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Carlos Miguel Prieto or with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra with JoAnn Falleta as conductor.
