Of Sweedish and German background, Cristina Bruno was born in La Coruña. She studied in the Conservatorio Superior in Madrid with José Cubiles and Manuel Carra, furthering her training in Bucharest and Hamburg with Florica Muzicescu and Eliza Hansen, respectively. She has also received very valuable instruction from María Curcio, Juan Carlos Zubeldía and Sergiu Celibidache.
Her debut came from various recitals in Madrid in 1968 and Hamburg in1969. She later did an audition for Celibidache, and was immediately presented to his orchestra, what helped her make her way through the international stages. From then on, she has performed as a soloist with European orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, Suisse Romande, Hamburger Symphoniker, Virtuosi in Moscow, Chamber Orchestra in Netherlands, RTV Rumana, Nacional Búlgara, Solisti Sofia, Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra in Lithuania and many more, as well as with the most important Spanish Orchestras.
Amongst other prestigious conductors, she has played under the baton of Yuri Ahronovitch, Roberto Benzi, Arpad Jóo, Vladimir Spivakov, Ljubomir Romansky or Saulius Sondeckis, as well as the majority of the most popular conductors in Spain.
She has performed, in recitals as well as with orchestras, in cities such as London, Berlin, Hamburg, Moscow, Genève, Leningrad, San Jose, Basilea, Sofia, Bucharest, Madrid, Barcelona, etc.
Her recital repertoire covers the totality of the genre, from the baroque to the contemporary period. At the age of twelve, she had a piece composed from Luis de Pablo especially for her. Other artists have dedicated pieces of music to her, such as Çarmelo Bernaola, Fernando Rincón, José Luis Turina, Carlos Cruz de Castro or Antonio Madigan, amongst others.
Cristina has made numerous recordings with labels like RCA, Hispavox, Etnos and EMI Classics, as well as radio and television retransmissions for Spain and Europe.
Miss Bruno has recently widened her professional features approaching a delicate genre: improvisation recitals.
