First Prize winner at the International Singing Competition “Toti dal Monte” in Treviso (Italy), mezzosoprano Cristina Faus has been praised by critics for the intensely personal color of her voice and musical phrasing. Her outstanding career has led her to perform at the majority of the most important concert halls and houses.

Cristina Faus focuses her operatic activity in the classic Mozart repertoire, French Romanticism and especially the Italian bel canto: Alcina, Falstaff, Il barbiere di Siviglia, L’arbore di Diana, Le nozze di Figaro,Così fan tutte, Rigoletto, La Cenerentola, La sonnambula, among others. Her wide and versatile repertorie also includes important symphonic works such as Magnificat and the St Matthew and St John Passions by J.S. Bach, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Membra Jesu Nostri by Buxtehude, Stabat Mater by Pergolesi, Requiems by Mozart and Dvořák, Christmas Oratorio by Saint-Saëns, Das Lied von der Erde by Mahler, and many others.

Highlights in her wide career include performances together with major orchestras such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Toronto Philharmonic, Orquesta Nacional de España, Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana – Palau de les Arts and Orchestra del Teatro La Fenice, among others, under the baton of important conductors: Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Alberto Zedda, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Juanjo Mena, Giancarlo Andreeta, Jesús López Cobos, Antoni Ros Marbà, Guillermo García Calvo, Ralf Weikert and Roberto Abbado. It is especially relevant her appearances at several editions of Festival Rossini in Pesaro (Italy) as well as at the Tanglewood Festival in its 75 anniversary. It is also remarkable her tours in Japan and her performances at the Teatro della Fenice (Italy), Ópera de Colombia, Royal Opera House in Muscat (Oman) and Covent Garden in London, among many others.
Cristina Faus is also a prominent zarzuela (Baroque Spanish operetta) performer, genre in which she had the leading role in titles such as La Revoltosa, ¡Viva Madrid!, La chulapona, La malquerida, El gato montésand Doña Francisquita in emblematic places such as the Teatro de la Zarzuela (Madrid), Teatro Campoamor (Oviedo), Teatro Calderón (Valladolid), Teatro Villamarta (Jerez) and Teatro Nacional de São Carlos (Lisbon).

Her recent and upcoming engagements include Semiramide (Arsace) at Covent Garden in London, La vida breve with maestro Juanjo Mena and BBC Philharmonic, Albert Boadella’s El pintor at Teatros del Canal in Madrid, La malquerida at Teatro Campoamor and Messiah in Oviedo, as well as Götterdämerung (First Norn) at Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Eugene Onegin (Olga) at Teatre Principal de Palma, La vida breve(La abuela) with Juanjo Mena and Orquesta Nacional de España, Cavalleria Rusticana (Santuzza) at Teatro Villamarta de Jerez, and her performances in the zarzuelas El gato montés at Palau de les Arts in Valencia,La malquerida at Teatros del Canal, Doña Francisquita at Teatro Campoamor, and Enseñanza libre, La gatita blanca and the world premiere of María Moliner at Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid.
Cristina Faus has recorded for the labels Deutsche Grammophon and NHK, and she has recently participated in the DVD recording of La clementina by Luigi Boccherini under the baton of Andrea Marcon.

Pablo González, leading the Orquesta y Coro RTVE, will conduct the 20th “Tribute Concert to the Victims of Terrorism” at the Auditorio Nacional de Música on Thursday the 10th

A movement from the work «Final», entitled «Eleventh of March», by the Spanish composer Jesús Torres, will open the concert-tribute to then listen to Beethoven’s IX Symphony, which will include the solo female voices of Jone Martínez (soprano) and Cristina Faus (mezzo-soprano).

As usual, this concert will be chaired by SS. MM. the King and Queen of Spain and the highest authorities of the State.
