Generalmusikdirektor of the Teather Chemnitz and Musical Director of the Teatro Lírico Nacional de la Zarzuela, maestro Guillermo García Calvo faces a varied and substantial 2021/2022 season.
Conducting the Robert-Schumann-Philarmonie, García Calvo will offer interesting programs that include Spanish music and soloists, as well as Gustav Mahler’s Symphonies No. 4, Anton Bruckner’s 7th, Chaikowski’s 1st, Chamber Symphony No. 1 in E major Op. 9 by Arnold Schönberg, La Vals, by M. Ravel, Pelléas et Mélisande, by G. Fauré …
The Spanish conductor based in Vienna will be in charge of premiering the two new productions that the Chemnitz Theater has prepared for next season: “Tristan and Isolde” and “«The Abduction from the Seraglio”, as well as “Aída”, by Verdi, “ Hänsel and Gretel «,» The twilight of the gods «and» Lohengrin «.
In 2021, specifically on September 10 and 12, he will conduct «Circe» at the Teatro Lírico Nacional de la Zarzuela in Madrid, an opera by Ruperto Chapí (concert version) and the Christmas Concert on December 30.
«Between Sevilla and Triana», a lyrical sainete by Pablo Sorozábal, along with Carlos Álvarez / Javier Franco, Ainhoa Arteta / Carmen Solís, among other singers and ·The Magic Opal», a comic operetta by Isaac Albéniz, which will go on stage on days 1, 2, 3 April 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, 2022, will close their appearances at the Teatro de la Zarzuela.
Maestro García Calvo will work with some Spanish orchestras, within the very busy schedule of the conductor. Thus, he will conduct the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid at the Auditorio Nacional de Música with a program consisting of the overture Die Zauberharfe (Rosamunde) by Schubert, Mozart: Double concerto for flute and harp and the Symphony No. 6 «Dollar» by Kurt Attenberg.
He will conduct and perform as a soloist in the Orquesta de Extremadura season, performing Concerto No. 13 in A major KV. 414 (Cadences from Musica Ricercata by Ligeti) and conducting Salieri’s overture “La fiera di Venezia” and Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 2.
Invited by Amigos Canarios de la Ópera (ACO), he will make his debut at the Teatro Pérez Galdós in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, premiering a new production of Ernani, by Giuseppe Verdi, along with Anna Pirozzi, Alfred Kim, Enkhbatyn Amartuvshin and Eugeny Stavinsky, among other singers.
Guillermo García Calvo has been invited by the Staatsoper Wien to conduct the Nureyev Gala to be held on June 26, 2022 with music by from Mahler, Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Minkus, Haydn with the Orchester der Wiener Staasoper and the Staatsballett Wien.
