Javier Comesaña

BIO
Described by the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung as «an open-minded and intelligent musician, capable of finding new ways of making music«, the 21-years-old Spanish violinist Javier Comesaña is the winner of the VI Jascha Heifetz International Violin Competition (2021) and the Prinz von Hessen-Preis, given by the Kronberg Academy. He is also a laureate of the Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition (2021).
He was distinguished in 2019 and 2021 as the most outstanding student in his professorship. As a chamber musician, he has performed with different formations in halls such as the National Auditorium of Music, Teatro Real and Casino de Madrid. In 2021 he received, from Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain, the Diploma as Most Outstanding group with piano thanks to his interpretation of the Piano Quintet in A Major «The Trout» by Schubert.

As a soloist, he has played under the direction of conductors such as David Afkham, Pablo González, Andrew Manze, Álvaro Albiach, Modestas Barkauskas, Ivan Monighetti, Borja Quintas and with orchestras such as the NDR Radiophilarmonie, Orquesta Nacional de España of Madrid, Real Orquesta Sinfonica de Sevilla, Camerata Bern, Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Stuttgarter Kammerorchester and the Freixenet Symphony Orchestra.
His former teachers are Yuri Managadze and Sergey Teslya. He did his bachelor’s degree at the Reina Sofia School of Music in Madrid, under the teaching of Italian maestro Marco Rizzi, and also increased his knowledge in masterclasses conducted by Mihaela Martin, Silvia Marcovici, Miriam Fried and Christoph Poppen, among others. He actually makes his Master Studies at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, under the teaching of Antje Weithaas.
Javier currently plays a Giovanni Battista Guadagnini 1765, generously loaned by the Fritz Behrens Stiftung.

Maestro Salvador Vázquez is recognized as one of the most vibrant and charismatic artists of the new generation of conductors in Spain, with a special enthusiasm for opera. Among his upcoming projects are the direction of Il barbiere di Siviglia in Malaga and La vida breve in Seville. For his part, the young violinist Javier Comesaña has been the winner of the Jascha Heifetz International Competition in Vilnius (2021), the Prinz von Hessen-Preis awarded by the Kronberg Academy and the Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition.
