Josep-Ramon Olivé




Born in Barcelona, ​​he received the Gold Medal of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London in 2017, as well as the first prize and the audience prize of the Händel Singing Competition in 2015 and the second prize of the Permanent Contest of Musical Youths of Spain. in 2011. He is also nominated for an Oxford Lieder Young Artist in 2015, is part of William Christie’s Le Jardin des Voix project and Les Arts Florissants in 2017, and is selected as an ECHO Rising Star in 2018.

 He began his cello, piano and singing studies at the Escolania de Montserrat and later continued at the Escola de Música de Barcelona. He studies choral conducting and classical singing at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya and continues his vocal training at the Guildhall School in London with Professor Rudolf Piernay. He has participated in master classes by Graham Johnson, Gerald Finley, Kurt Widmer, Josep Bros, Luigi Alva and Teresa Berganza, among others.


Josep-Ramon Olivé has collaborated with orchestras such as Le Concert des Nations, Les Arts Florissants, Hespérion XXI, the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, the London Handel Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, performing in concert halls and theaters such as the Palau de la Música Catalana, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Philharmonie in Paris, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Wigmore Hall and the Barbican Hall in London, and the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, and under the baton of great conductors such as Jordi Savall, William Christie, Kazushi Ono, John Fiore, Giampaolo Bisanti, Sigiswald Kujken, Laurence Cummings, Josep Pons and Victor Pablo Perez.

Among the opera roles he has performed include Il Conte (Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro), Mercutio (Gounod Roméo et Juliette), Tarquinius (Britten The Rape of Lucretia), Schaunard (Puccini La Bohème), Masetto (Mozart Don Giovanni), Kuligin ( Janacek Katia Kabanova), Maximilian (Bernstein Candide), Polyphemus (Handel Acis & Galatea), Armindo (Vinci La Partenope), Orfeo (Monteverdi L’Orfeo), Aeneas (Purcell Dido & Aeneas), Pantalone (Wolf-Ferrari Le donne curiose) and Thésée (Martinů Ariane). He has also performed oratorios such as Brahms’s Ein Deutches Requiem, Zemlinsky’s Lyric Symphony, Fauré’s Requiem, Duruflé’s Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, the Requiem, the Mass in C minor and the Vesperae Solenne de Confessore by Mozart, the Messiah, Esther and Alexander Balus by Händel and the St. Matthew Passion, the Magnificat, the Mass in B minor and the Weinachts Oratorium by J.S.Bach. Finally, on the lied side, he has sung the cycles Die schöne Magelone by Brahms, Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen i Rückert Lieder by Mahler, Winterreise i Die schöne Müllerin by Schubert, Dichterliebe by Schumann, Histoires Naturelles by Ravel, La bonne chanson by Fauré and An die ferne Geliebte by Beethoven, among others.

Recent activities include the premiere of works by composers Salvador Brotons (Cantata de Randa), Josep Vila i Casañas (Veni Creator Spiritus), Albert Guinovart (Requiem), Joan Magrané (Diàlegs de Tirant e Carmesina), Johan Duijck (Dixit Dominus), Raquel García-Tomás (Chansons Trouvées), Laurence Osborn (Narkissuss) and Alberto García-Demestres (L’Eclipsi), the debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, at the Castell de Peralada Festival, and at the Lied Cycle of the CNDM at the Teatro de la Zarzuela and the inauguration of LIFE Victoria 2018 in a recital with the pianist Malcolm Martineau.
