BIO

Born in Las Palmas (Spain), Juan Antonio started his singing studies at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Gran Canaria. He has taken vocal interpretation courses with Tom Krause, Miguel Zanetti, Alejandro Zabala, and Fabrizzio Migliorino, among others. In 2003 he started his higher singing studies with María Orán, and won in 2006 the First Prize at the Concurso de Canto Caja Canarias.

In the lyric field, he has taken part in the Taller de Ópera de Cámara del Conservatorio Superior de Música in Las Palmas at the opera Le nozze di Figaro. He participated at the Opera Festival in Las Palmas in the 2005-2006 season as Arlecchino in Pahliacci under the baton of maestro Pedro Halffter, and  at the Teatro Español de Madrid in 2006 interpreting Don Giovanni in Il Dissoluto Punito ossia Don Giovanni Tenorio by Ramón Carnicer, conducted by José Montaño.

He has interpreted the Christmas Oratorio by Camille Saint-Säens under the baton of Falcón Sanabria and Carmen Cruz.

One highlight of his career is his appearance at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Luisa Fernanda, and in the opera La Conquista di Granata at the Teatro Real de Madrid, under the baton of Jesús López Cobos.

Juan Antonio Sanabria has performed at the most important Spanish theatres and halls, such as the Teatro Real de Madrid, the Tenerife and Seville Auditoriums, those in Las Palmas, Oviedo, etc.

Some outstanding operas in his repertoire are, to mention but some, Ariadne auf Naxos and Elektra by Strauss, Les contes d’Hoffmann by Offenbach, and Tristan und Isolde by Wagner. The Magnificat by Bach and Dixit Dominus by Händel form part of his oratorio repertoire, amongst others.

Juan Antonio Sanabria has been awarded the First Prize at the Singing Festival in Claremont-Ferrand, consequently compromising himself to perform at next season’s production Cosi fan Tutte by Mozart.
