Juanjo Mena pays tribute to Jesús Guridi by conducting El Caserío at the Teatro de la Zarzuela.
After visiting the Teatro Filarmonico dof Verona on September 15 with the Orquesta Nacional de España with an important program that included works by Manuel de Falla, Joaquín Rodrigo and Maurice Ravel, maestro Juanjo Mena turns to honor the great composer of Vitoria Jesús Guridi, conducting El Caserío in the Teatro de la Zarzuela.
Fourteen representations of the famous zarzuela of Guridi who was also an organist, professor and director of the Conservatorio Superior de Música of Madrid will delight the public for the enormous beauty of this score and the refinement of its orchestration.
After this emotional experience for Juanjo Mena, he will offer concerts with the symphony orchestras of Lucerne, Pittsburgh, New World, Detroit, Chicago and Montreal, he will be present again at the May Festival (Cincinnati) and he will aslo conduct the Minnesota Orchestra, Philharmonic from Oslo and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. With the latter, he will offer concerts in Copenhagen and at the Festival Internacional de Música de Canarias next January 2020, performing works by Nielsen, Schubert and Dvorak.
During the 2019/2020 season, the Spanish conductor will meet again with the symphony orchestras of Euskadi, Castilla y León and Barcelona and Nacional de Cataluña.
In December this year, Maestro Mena will conduct, one more year, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid, which has already become a tradition.
For two weeks he will conduct the Orquesta Nacional de España, of which he is Associate Conductor (December 2019 and June 2020), they will play works by Walton, Elgar, Britten, Sibelius and Janacek. Two great soloists, Asier Polo and Julia Fischer, will perform the concerts of Elgar and Sibelius, respectively.
