Maestro Christoph König, next Principal Conductor of the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra
The Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra and Choir (OCRTVE) has announced the appointment of maestro Christoph König as the next principal conductor of the Orchestra RTVE and artistic director of the Orchestra and Choir.
The mandate of maestro König as principal conductor will come into effect on September 1, 2023. Previously, as of November 1, 2022, he will assume the maximum artistic responsibility for the institution.
Christoph König is a great connoisseur of OCRTVE which he has conducted on several occasions with great success. In the next season he will again lead the Orchestra and Choir to conduct the Stabat Mater de Dvořák, on February 24 and 25, 2022, at the Teatro Monumental in Madrid.
König has been, since 2010, principal conductor and musical director of Solistes Européens Luxembourg and has been a guest conductor of many of the most prestigious orchestras in the world.
Among others, he has conducted the Rochester Philharmonic, the Birmingham City Symphony Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Paris Orchestra, the Netherlands Philharmonic, the Wiener Concertverein, the Bournemouth Symphony, the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. , the Danish National Symphony, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg, the Beethoven Orchestera Bonn, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the New Zealand Symphony and the Scottish Symphony Orchestra of the BBC, which he conducted with great success on a tour of China.
Since his US debut in 2010, he has conducted orchestras such as the Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, New Jersey, Houston, Oregon and Toronto Symphony, as well as the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Also very present in Spain, he has conducted the Euskadi Symphony, the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, the Barcelona Symphony and Catalonia National Orchestra, the Bilbao Symphony or the Real Filharmonia de Galicia, of which he was the pricnipal guest conductor, among other.
König was born in Dresden where he sang in the famous Kreuzchoir. He studied conducting, piano, and singing at the Dresden Musikhochschule and expanded his studies with Sergiu Celibidache and Sir Colin Davis.
