Maximino Zumalave



Born in Santiago de Compostela, Maximino Zumalave studied in Santiago, Madrid, Vienna and Sttutgart with Angel Brage, Rosa Sabater, Guillermo González, John Elliot Gardiner and Helmuth Rilling.

He was the founder and Princial Conductor of the Santiago University Vhoir and the Collegium Compostellanum. He has been Principal Guest Conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia and founder of the Real Filharmonía de Galicia, being presently Pincipal Guest Conductor.

He has conducted important International orchestras such as the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, The English Chamber Orchestra, English Barocke Soloist, Prague Symphoy Orchestra, Odense Symfonieorkester, The Brabants Orchester, Bach Collegium and most of the finest Spanish orchestras.


Maximino Zumalave has collaborated with very prestigious solists such as Rudolg Buchbinder, Maria Bayo, Alicia de Larrocha, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Joaquín Achúcarro, Josep Colom or María Orán, among others. Frequent and very special is his collaboration with Teresa Berganza. With whom he has performed in concert all over Europe.

He has been invited in numerous occasions to participate as member of the jury in many contests and international awards. Maximino Zumalave has conducted world premieres of works by noted contemporary Spanish composers like Carmelo Bernaola, Manuel Castillo, Antón García Abril, Tomás Marco or Jesús Villa Rojo, etc, also championing young Galician composers such as Alonso, Balboa, Durán, Macías, de Paz, Pereiro, Vázquez o Viaño.

His commitment with the Galician culture transcends music: Torrente Ballester sent him a book with a curious and emblematic quote: “Regretting it cannot be a symphony”. Since 1995 he is member of the Real Academia Gallega de Bellas Artes de Nuestra Señora del Rosario
