Miguel RomeaDIRECTOR DE ORQUESTA
Born in Madrid, Miguel Romea studied at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música, where he obtained a Degree in Clarinet and the Graduation Honor Award. He did his postgraduate studies at Rotterdams Conservatorium and Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg.
Since 2010, Miguel Romea is Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Orquesta Sinfónica Verum, made up of the new and talented generation of young Spanish classical musicians, which is becoming a reference in the symphonic, opera and ballet repertoire. With this orchestra, he has worked together with renowned artists and institutions such as Plácido Domingo, Gregory Kunde, Javier Camarena, the English National Ballet and Ballet Nacional de Uruguay. Previously, he has been Chief Conductor of young orchestras such as the Joven Orquesta de Extremadura, with which he has been invited to different European festivals, as well as Assistant Conductor of the Joven Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, touring in Spain and Italy.
Miguel Romea has led a large number of orchestras: Orquesta Nacional de España, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Orquesta de RTVE, Kuopio Symphony Orchestra (Finland), Jönköpings Sinfonietta (Sweden), Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid, Orquesta de Córdoba, Orquesta de Extremadura, Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga, Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, Joven Orquesta Nacional de España, Orquesta Andrés Segovia, Joven Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, Orquesta Sinfónica de El Paso, West Island Symphony Orchestra, SJ Orchestra Montreal, among others. He constantly works with these ensembles, developing a repertoire which includes complete cycles of Beethoven, Schumann and Brahms, Mahler symphonies, the great Russian repertoire (Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Shostakovich, Prokofiev, etc.) as well as the Spanish repertoire (Albéniz, Falla, Turina, etc.).
Miguel Romea has led numerous premieres: the operas Don Quixote, by Wilhelm Kienzl, and Yo lo vi, by Tomás Marco, in addition to a multitude of symphonic works by Spanish composers of our time, such as José Luis Turina, Sofía Martínez, Joaquín Clerch, José Zárate and many others. He has led in international music festivals in Montreal, Florence, Alicante, Málaga, etc., and has been in charge of the Musical Direction of several zarzuela –Spanish operetta- productions.
Recent and upcoming engagements include his debut with the Robert Schumann Philharmonie in Theater Chemnitz, Duisburger Philharmoniker, Orquesta de Valencia, Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao and his return to Jönköpings Sinfonietta (Sweden), among many others.
Miguel Romea is Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio (Madrid) and the Orquesta Opus 23 Academy. He also teaches regularly at courses and Master Classes, being currently one of the Orchestral Conducting pedagogues in greatest demand in Spain.
