Born in Finland, Monica Groop had her debut with the Finnish National Opera as the Charlotte at the Werther opera by Massenet. This was soon followed by other successful roles at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London (1991) with Wagner’s operas, at the Staatsoper in Munich or at the Los Angeles Opera, amongst many others.
Her career has been characterized specially for the wide range of repertoire she has covered, from the baroque period with the greatest early music conductors, to more contemporary music.
She has performed with the majority of the most important orchestras in the world, like the New York Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, Dresden Staatskapelle, Leipzig Gewandhausorchester, Orchestre National de France, or the Wiener Symhponiker, amongst many others.

She has been invited to sing at the main opera houses: London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Vienna, etc. She has also worked with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Seiji Ozawa, Sir Colin Davis, Sir Roger Norrington, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Sir George Solti, Bernard Haitink, or Carlo Maria Giulini.
She has appeared in recitals at the Carnegie Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, and at the Musikverein in Viena. She toured through Austria and in Lucerne’s Festival with pianist András Schiff (regular collaborator) on the occasion of Schubert’s and Brahms’s anniversaries.
Monica Group has been applauded for her interpretations of baroque music under the baton of Ivor Bolton, Franz Brüggen, Eric Ericson, Philippe Herreweghe, Christopher Hogwood, Ton Koopman, Sigiswald Kuijken, Trevor Pinnock, Helmuth Rilling, Peter Schreier, Bruno Weil, and more.
Her operatic repertoire covers operas like Le nozze di Figaro, La clemenza di Tito, Alcina, Der Rosenkavalier, Ariadne auf Naxos, Werther, Pelleas et Mélisande, Orfeo ed Euridice, Dido and Aeneas, Eugen Onegin, etc.
Her wide dyscocgraphy indludes more than fifty recordings for labels such as: Sony, Decca, Chandos, Harmonia Mundi, or CPO, amongst others.
