An inspired, reliable and creative conductor, his musical performances are sincere and imaginative, with a touch of genius. A born leader and great motivator, he projects in his performers a great capacity to transmit the love for music and the values of a job well done, with an emphasis on effort, the search for perfection and self-criticism that enriches the audience experience.
Born in Barcelona in 1979, Tomàs Grau studied music at the Superior Conservatory of Music in his own city, where he achieved the Choir Conducting Degree, and was rewarded with the Honorary Award in 2003. He continued his conducting studies at the Superior School of Music of Catalonia, where he graduated in Orchestral Conducting, with top ratings in 2007. His Orchestral Conducting studies were completed in the 2006 and 2007 Wiener Meisterkurse editions. Tomàs has studied under internationally recognized teachers like Salvador Mas, Jordi Mora, Pierre Cao, Gary Graden and José Rafael Pascual-Vilaplana.
He has conducted several international soloists, including Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Gautier Capuçon, Sabine Meyer, Steven Isserlis, Alexander Melnikov, Seong-Jin Cho, Mark Padmore, Stephen Kovacevich, Alice Sara Ott, Sayaka Shoji, Albrecht Mayer, Clara-Jumi Kang, Asier Polo, Ainhoa Arteta, Leticia Moreno, Iván Martín, Jesús Reina and Josu de Solaun in all the main concert halls in Spain, including the National Auditorium in Madrid, the Palau de la Música Catalana and L’Auditori in Barcelona, as well as internationally at the Tonhalle in Zurich.
Nowadays, Tomàs is the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the OCM Symphony Orchestra in Tarragona, and he is often invited to conduct other orchestras, such as the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, Orquesta Sinfónica de la Región de Murcia, Orquesta de Córdoba, Orquesta Sinfónica de Burgos, Orquestra Nacional Clàssica d’Andorra, Jove Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona, Orquesta Sinfónica Vigo 430, Camerata Internacional de Barcelona, Orquesta Academia Galamian and Camerata Eduard Toldrà, among others.
He has recorded for labels such as SONY Classical, ARS Produktion (label of the year at the International Classical Music Awards), Discmedi and La mà de guido.
Among his immediate commitments, he will be conducting soloists like Ivo Pogorelich, Maria João Pires, Mischa Maisky, Midori, Paul Lewis, Alexei Volodin and Pablo Sáinz Villegas.
