Three young Spanish conductors put music at the beginning of 2021
NMaestros Andrés Salado, Tomàs Grau and François López-Ferrer star in the first concerts of the year
After his recent Christmas Concerts with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Radiotelevisión Española, maestro Andrés Salado, the next principal conductor and artistic director of the Orquesta de Extremadura, began the year at the Palau de la Música Catalana conducting the New Year’s Concerts of the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallés, on January 1 and 2, with music by Verdi, Dvorak, Von Suppé and the Strasuss, father and son. Very soon we will see him conducting L’elisir d’amore, leading the Orquestra Simfònica dels Illes Balears at the Teatre Principal in Palma.
Maestro Tomàs Grau was in charge of conducting the Orquesta de Córdoba’s New Year’s Concerts, filling the Great Theater of this Andalusian city with the music of Strauss and Tchaikovsky, the first two days of the year. This same month he will conduct the Orquestra Simfònica Camera Musicae, of which he is the titular conductor and artistic director, with Mischa Maisky as soloist, at the Palau de la Música Catalana, the Teatre de Tarragona and l ’Atlàntida de Vic.
François López-Ferrer, for his part, current assistant conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony and the May Festival, will lead the Orquesta Nacional de España on Sunday, January 10 to direct the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Saint-Saëns and the Symphony in C major by Bizet. Next month he will conduct the Orquesta de Extremadura with works by Richard Strauss y Francis Poulenc.
