Jacquelyn Wagner is in high demand by such prestigious opera houses and festivals as the Paris Opera, the Teatro alla Scala, the Zurich Opera House, the Teatro Real iof Madrid, the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Salzburg Festival.
With her «lovely clean and focused sound» (The New York Times), «silvery tone», «a natural dignity and vocal command that» make her performances «highly impressive» (Opera News), the American soprano is enjoying resounding success in such different repertoire as Mozart, Handel, Verdi and Puccini, with a special focus on the German Fach and the iconic jugendlich-dramatische roles by Wagner, Strauss and Weber.

In the 2022/23 season, Jacquelyn Wagner makes several house debuts: at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago, she stars in ”La rondine”, also making her role debut as Magda, at the Staatsoper Stuttgart she appears as Contessa in “Le nozze di Figaro” and at the Teatro Regio in Turin as Donna Anna in “Don Giovanni” in a new production conducted by Riccardo Muti. She also returns to the Theater an der Wien, where she reprises her acclaimed portrayal of Agathe in “Der Freischütz” in a new production, a role she also sings for her return to the Opernhaus Zürich. On the concert platform, Jacquelyn Wagner can be heard in Mahler’s “Symphony of a Thousand” with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra led by Vasily Petrenko at the Royal Albert Hall and with the Gewandhausorchester conducted by Andris Nelsons as part of the Leipzig Mahler Festival. Jacquelyn Wagner also appears as Leonore in “Fidelio” in concert at the Tonhalle Zürich with the Tonhalle Orchestra and Paavo Järvi.
Other recent engagements include her portrayal of Euryanthe in a new production at the Theater an der Wien, as Eva in «Die Meistersinger» von Nürnberg“ at the Salzburg Easter Festival conducted by Christian Thielemann, «Don Giovanni» (Donna Anna) in a new staging at the Opéra national de Paris under the baton of Philippe Jordan, as Agathe in “Der Freischütz” for her debut at the Opernhaus Zürich , as Handel’s Alcina in a new staging at Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf and Rosalinde in “Die Fledermaus” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
A milestone of her career was her sensational success as Arabella in a new production at De Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam, a role she also interpreted at the Opernhaus Zürich, the Minnesota Opera as well as at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf.
Other highlights have included Leonore in “Fidelio” conducted by Myung-whun Chung and Eva in “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” led by Daniele Gatti at the Teatro alla Scala, “Fidelio” at the Semperoper Dresden and in St. Gallen, Strauss’ “Vier Letzte Lieder” at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, her debut at the Paris Opera, where she sang Pamina in «Die Zauberflöte» and Fiordiligi in «Così fan tutte”, Gutrune in “Götterdämmerung” at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, a concert performance of «Feuersnot» as Diemut in New York Carnegie Hall, Contessa in «Le nozze di Figaro» at the Staatsoper in Hamburg, Donna Anna at the Munich State Opera, Fiordiligi at the Semperoper, Desdemona in «Otello» at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, Donna Anna in «Don Giovanni» and Violetta in «La Traviata» at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
Jacquelyn Wagner studied at the Manhattan School of Music and at the Oakland University of Michigan and won numerous international competitions like the ‘International Voice Competition Francisco Vinas’, the ‘Voice Competition Renata Tebaldi’ and the ‘Panasonic Voice Competition’ in New York in Alice Tully Hall. She got special mention at the ‘Palm Beach Opera Competition junior division’ two years in a row, and was twice a recipient of the ‘Jenny Lind Society Scholarship’. She is also a recipient of a ‘Fulbright Study Grant’. Jacquelyn Wagner started her career at the Deutsche Oper Berlin as a scholarship holder and later as an ensemble member, singing a wide range of repertoire.
